Databeans Forecast:
Continued Moderate Growth for 2007
Semiconductor Markets – Worldwide
Semiconductor revenue growth
is expected to remain on track through 2007 with an estimated
worldwide revenue increase of 12 percent, up slightly from
2006. While certain application markets using chips are expected
to slow somewhat in the coming year, there are others that
will make up for this sustaining growth in line with the
five year average... |
Freescale Semiconductor
Leads in Automotive IC Market
Semiconductor Applications Markets – Worldwide
Databeans estimates that
Freescale Semiconductor leads in the Automotive Semiconductor
market by a small margin over Infineon Technologies. The
top three suppliers to this market, Freescale Semiconductor,
Infineon Technologies, and STMicroelectronics, earned nearly
one third of total worldwide revenue, which is reported at
$18 billion for 2006...

Texas Instruments
Widens Lead in the Analog Market
Analog Markets – Worldwide
With
17 percent growth in 2006, Texas Instruments expanded
its lead in analog with a 14 percent share of the
global $37 billion market. Other top players include
STMicroelectronics, Infineon Technologies, NXP, Analog
Devices and National Semiconductor. Strong growth in
2006 was seen by NXP, which is focusing more on higher
margin products for vertical markets. Other movers include
Freescale Semiconductor, Intersil, and ON Semiconductor...

Despite New Competitive
Forces, Entrenched
Signal Conditioning Market Suppliers Dominate
Analog Markets – Worldwide
Signal
conditioning circuits include amplifiers, comparators,
and data converters. These standard linear products are
analog ICs that alter real world analog signal so that
they can be used by digital processing circuits. In general
these are multi-market products used to amplify, filter
and convert signals in to the digital language of 0s and
1s. Combined, the signal conditioning market is estimated
at $4.7 billion worldwide for 2006...

2007 Worldwide
Semiconductor Revenue and Channel "Health"
Semiconductor Markets – Worldwide
So
far this year, worldwide revenue for semiconductors has
been impacted by an inventory glut that started last fall.
Because of this market condition, it is likely that the
original Databeans January 2007 forecast of 12 percent
growth will not be achieved. Instead, we are expecting
moderate growth, but not at the level of other current
predictions, which are calling for roughly the same revenue
total as last year...

Timing
Market Keeps Pace
Semiconductor Markets
- Worldwide
The
market for timing devices is estimated at $1.6 billion,
and growing by close to 13 percent on average each year,
according to Databeans, Inc. Demand for these integrated
circuits is outpacing traditional crystal-type products
due to competitive pricing, and the ability to integrate
timing with other functions, particularly in the consumer
space....

Promising Home
Medical Telemetry Market Attracts IC Suppliers
Semiconductor Markets - Worldwide
Shipment share for worldwide
medical electronics continues to migrate from hospitals,
through doctors' offices, to patient residences. Most consumers
have at least one electronic device used for health care
in their home. Digital thermometers, blood glucose meters,
and blood pressure monitors are some of the most prevalent
applications being utilized by consumers today...

Wireless
Semiconductor Demand in India
Semiconductor Application Markets
- Worldwide
Despite
some inventory issues in the wireless market that occurred
during the first half of 2007, this year's wireless revenue
is working its way toward the $40 billion mark. Regions
contributing most notably are China, with over 17 percent
share of consumption, Europe with 19 percent share as
a whole, and Japan with 15 percent share...

Power Management Market
Semiconductor Analog Product Markets - Worldwide
Demand
for certain semiconductor products are tied closely with
the application markets they serve, such as microprocessors
and the PC, DSP and the mobile phone, and transceivers with
broadband. For power management, however, suppliers enjoy
relatively consistent demand through the ups and downs of
replacement trends, provided their customer base is diverse
enough...

SSL Markets
Semiconductor Markets - Worldwide
The
market for traditional lighting is very large - estimated
at over $100 billion in 2006. Traditional lighting equipment
uses filaments or gas, a technology that has had little
innovative change over time in terms of power efficiency
and usage hours. The semiconductor industry has already
begun introducing an alternative solution by way of optoelectronics,
specifically Solid State Lighting (or SSL), where products
include LEDs for the most part...
