| Abstract The build out of telecommunications infrastructure and the wireless handset market drove the amplifier business in 2000. As a result, sales increased 55.3% over 1999 values, a substantial expansion. These same two markets will have a contrasting impact in 2001 as large inventories and lifeless consumer spending hamper the demand for products that use operational, video, and instrumentation amplifiers. This market is expected to recover, however, by 2002 when 2.5 Generation and 3rd Generation terminals and infrastructure demand are expected to resume course. While the current market conditions weigh down the overall compound annual growth rate, after five periods, the amplifier market is still expected to grow at a tempo close to 15.2% each year. Of the separate amplifier categories, five in all, the high speed market is expected to show the most significant growth followed by low power devices, precision, low voltage and standard products.
