2003 DSP and Analog Consumption by Major Metro Area Market Research Report
Abstract
Over the last few years, a significant amount of manufacturing has migrated out of the Americas, resulting in a contraction of DSP and Analog global revenue shares, and the movement has most affected the telecommunications and computer segments.

The Americas manufacturing sector has been quickly evolving, resulting in an operating model which is characterized by "build-to-order" products, technological advances, less labor cost, and coordinated design efforts. As a result, most manufacturing of straightforward high-volume applications has moved to lower-cost (owned or outsourced) global manufacturing centers. Since the majority of these designs are found in the computer and communications segments, output from other segments has increased, causing a shift in regional volume of IC consumption, and a share-split amongst served markets.

In 2002, the Americas consumed $5.5 billion in Analog and DSP products. The majority of consumption in the US market remains in the North Central region, which was dominated by automotive manufacturing, industrial equipment, and consumer products. The North Central region consumed an estimated 24% of the nation's DSP and Analog product shipments.
