2003 Amplifiers Market Research Report
Abstract
Substantial price erosion in the global amplifier market has resulted in adverse conditions for leading suppliers of general purpose and low power/low voltage amplifiers. While lower prices have stunted revenue growth in these segments, there are new opportunities emerging for high-speed and precision products in which price points will drop to levels seen in high volume application markets.

Pricing continues to impact this market, and this trend is not expected to reverse. Set-off by the inventory accumulation of year 2000, pricing pressures remain due to a significant demand shift to lower-cost manufacturing regions (like China), and aggressive contract negotiation by persuasive and dominant OEMs.

While global unit shipments for amplifiers increased by 17% in 2002, revenue contracted by 14%, resulting in a drop in average selling prices from $0.36 in 2001 to $0.26 in 2002. In 2003, Databeans forecasts an increase in pricing to $0.30, which will drive an increase in overall global revenue to $2.2 billion with 7.6 billion units shipped.
