2003 Standard Linear Market Research Report
Abstract
Standard linear is one of the fastest growing segments both within the analog market and in the entire semiconductor industry. This market represents roughly 41% of the analog market and 7% of the total semiconductor industry, and share is increasing due to strong growth in power management, signal conditioning, and signal conversion.

Ongoing production of high performance electronics equipment has progressively added new functionality to designs by incorporating digital technology. This trend is driving demand for linear products used to manage, control, and convert the signals used in the building blocks of multiple applications. Standard linear products can be segmented into high performance products and commodity analog. High performance products include high-speed amplifiers, high-speed and higher resolution converters, and interface line drivers. And commodity analog products would include voltage regulators, amplifiers, communications and display drivers, data converters, voltage references, and comparators.

While the individual market dynamics of standard linear components vary, the aggregate market continues to outpace much of the application specific and digital logic industries. Databeans estimates that high performance linear is also outpacing commodity analog, and these products continue to drive sales for the overall standard linear market. Databeans' estimate for high performance linear is $1.4 billion in 2002. Growing at a compound annual growth rate of 18%, this market should constitute close to 20% of standard linear by 2008.
