2008 Automotive Analog ICs Market Research Report
Abstract
The market for automotive electronics is growing faster than the automobile market, and so automotive semiconductors are also seeing growth. Automotive analog semiconductors are expected to see 6 percent average annual growth in the coming years.

Automotive applications present special challenges for semiconductor manufacturers. For example, automotive systems typically require components with wide operating temperature and input voltage ranges along with low noise and EMI emissions. Also automotive electronics are becoming more complex and require increasing numbers of components, thereby making space requirements more critical, and they are requiring greater efficiency from the components utilized.

Analog products represent the largest revenue producing semiconductor product used in the automotive market, accounting for 25 percent of automotive semiconductor revenues, which are expected to total $23.6 billion this year. In the $6.2 billion automotive analog market, the major products are application specific automotive devices, where sales are expected to reach $4.7 billion this year. The next largest product is power, where revenues represent about 12 percent of the market. Over the forecast period, this should be the fastest growing analog product for automotive, with an average growth rate of 10 percent.

Special purpose analog is used throughout automotive systems. However, in recent automotive designs, the trend is toward using more standard or commodity products in the various systems. Special purpose automotive analog is by far the largest automotive analog product segment, representing about three quarters of total sales. Growth rates here are lower than many other automotive analog products, but the segment is still expected to see some growth over the forecast period.
