| Abstract The need for thermal management in electronics is increasing, due to the continued demand for smaller and higher powered products. In particular, IC temperature sensors are being increasingly used because of the ease with which they can interact with other electronic components. Electronics systems will function properly only under certain temperature constraints; if the temperature is too high or too low, the device will malfunction, and so temperature monitoring is vital to the health of the overall system. With electronics demanding increased functionality and higher speed in smaller packages, the creation of heat is only increasing, and so the need for temperature sensors is more important now than ever. Temperature sensors account for over 14 percent of the $6.3 billion Sensors market. The sensors market is driven mainly by actuator sales, which currently account for nearly one half of total sensor sales and have expectations for strong growth. Temperature sensors are expected to see a decrease in market share over the forecast period, but are expected to perform at a revenue growth rate of 7 percent on average over the next five years.
