| Abstract Microcontrollers are a critical component from everything to simple toys to advanced power supply grids and automobiles. Databeans predicts that this market will continue to experience growth due to new developments in 32-Bit architectures which are making them less expensive; however 4-Bit and 8-Bit devices will continue to experience modest growth as their features continue to improve. Microcontrollers are utilized in all five major semiconductor segments for a variety of functions including motor control, driving displays, performing calculations, and other simple repeatable programs. The automotive market, despite losing considerable market share from 2008, is predicted to continue to lead consumption of MCUs in 2009 with 30 percent of the available market. Microcontrollers operate in a number of automotive body applications including the dashboard modules, window lift, seat modules, door module, sun roof, climate control, and exhaust-gas recycling control, among others. Databeans predicts that 2009 will be a particularly slow year for sales and consumption of microcontrollers, with a decline in revenue and shipments from 2008. However, in 2010 it is expected that increased sales of automobiles, personal electronics, and manufactured goods due to a steadily recovering world economy will return profits of MCUs.
