Abstract
Demand for automotive semiconductors, and automotive analog ICs in particular, will grow at a healthy pace for the next few years, as vehicles become more reliant upon computers and other electronics to drive new applications.
For the year 2004, in the U.S., manufacturers recalled more vehicles than in any other year. Over 25 million vehicles were recalled, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The reason for the number of recalls has little to do with lack of quality, and much more to do with how complex automotive technology has become. More so than ever, automotive electronics play critical roles in the development and manufacture of new vehicles. This of course has increased demand for more and better semiconductor content.
Databeans estimates that the bill of materials for automotive semiconductors is increasing by roughly 6 percent each year. The typical automotive semiconductor bill of materials has reached a value of $255 for 2004. The worldwide automotive semiconductors market is currently valued at about $15.5 billion. More growth is expected in 2006, bringing the market closer to $17.4 billion. For the forecast period, Databeans anticipates an average growth rate of 9 percent per year.
This new study from Databeans Inc., describes in detail, the current market conditions for automotive semiconductors and analog application specific products used in automotive electronics. Regional forecasts are presented along with consumption and production forecasts by automotive subsystem, such as engine control, safety, entertainment and comfort, as well as emerging technologies, such as navigational equipment, and communications systems. Finally, automotive analog suppliers are discussed and market share presented for performance during 2004.
