While the computer market is still largest for semiconductors, wireless communications has been outperforming the rest of the field, the other major markets, in terms of revenue growth, and this trend will continue to accelerate. Average annual growth for the overall semiconductor industry is expected to be about 11 percent over the next five years. Semiconductors for wireless electronics will constitute an estimated 15% percent of the semiconductor market this year and the average annual growth rate is will above the macro-market at 14 percent on average, a conservative estimate.
Wireless semiconductor products include discrete RF devices, power amplifiers, integrated RF mixed signal circuits, power products, DSPs, microcontrollers, integrated digital logic, and memory. This study provides readers with revenue forecasts for each element of the wireless signal path. Regional analysis includes forecasts for the high growth geographies and how the smaller markets play in this space. Supporting forecasts for our regional analysis include mobile phone shipments by region.
Databeans consumption analysis for the wireless semiconductor market begins with a market segmentation for products by application, mobile phones, infrastructure, Bluetooth, WiFi, and other wireless. Each market is discussed in detail with application shipment forecasts along with the revenue forecasts for wireless products for each segment. The study is completed with a market share analysis that presents the top wireless semiconductor suppliers and which product areas are strengths.
Other significant findings available in this report include:
- Wireless Semiconductor revenue will reach over $40 billion this year with significant contribution from memory, DSPs, and RF mixed signal products.
- Mobile handset semiconductor content is increasing as is the overall value of the silicon inside. Databeans estimates that the average bill of materials for silicon in a mobile phone will reach just under $35USD reaching over $42USD in five years.
- Mobile phone shipments to Asia Pacific continue to outpace other regions with half of the global share by next year.
- Within Wireless Semiconductors, short range wireless chipsets are growing the fastest with 16 percent growth on average, two points higher than mobile phones.
