Military spending has been on the rise since the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. There has been a great deal of spending on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but there are other conflicts that have contributed as well. For example, there is a conflict between Israel and Hezbollah, and Iran and North Korea are both threatening with nuclear weapons capability. In a manner of speaking, all of this conflict is good for military business.
Databeans estimates that the military and aerospace semiconductor market will reach over $2.7 billion this year with high growth opportunities in the communications and smart weaponry. Although this market is growing slower than other segments of the semiconductor industry, niche players in the space are reaping the benefit of expanding budgets and increased demand.
