Databeans estimates that the data converter market will constitute a 17 percent share of standard linear market revenue for this year, or about 7 percent of the overall analog market by revenue.
Demand for data converters correlates with demand for digital signal processors (DSP). Most applications using DSP process information gathered from an analog signal, or from a combination of inputs, vibration, images, temperature, and pressure. DSPs are used in high-growth application markets, including wireless and broadband communications equipment.
Databeans estimates that unit shipments for data converters will increase from 2.7 billion units in 2008 to about 6 billion units by 2013. Average selling prices for these products are expected to decline; unit shipments for data converters are growing faster than revenue, which causes slight erosion.
The 2008 data converter market will likely be up by about 17 percent from the previous year, and it is expected to outperform the total semiconductor industry. Much lower growth of 7 percent is expected for next year. Longer term, the market for converters should continue to advance with an average annual growth rate of 11 percent out to 2013.
