Abstract

The computer market is still the largest consumption market for semiconductors, constituting about a 35 percent share of overall market value. Solid growth is expected over the next five years, but other markets such as Communications and Consumer will likely generate more revenue growth, because of greater end-product demand coming from those areas.

North America is still the largest consuming region for PC sales. Most of these shipments are going into the United States, and they are replacement sales for the most part. With the U.S. economy likely going into recession, these replacement sales are expected to decline. Under this type of scenario, consumers would be more likely to extend the lives of existing machines before making new purchases.
However, in the rest of the world, there is considerable growth taking place especially in areas such as China, Latin America, and the Middle East. A lot of the growth seen in those areas is due to first time purchases.
The semiconductor market is driven by the computer market. This is still the largest consumption market for semiconductors, with $97.2 billion in revenue expected to be generated in 2008, or about 35 percent of the total market in terms of revenue share. Assuming a growth rate of 9 percent on average per year, this market is expected to reach a value of over $150 billion by year 2013.
This study is available through individual report purchase for $2,995.00 USD, or available at a discounted rate through our 2008 Databeans Annual Library, the 2008 Semiconductor Product and Application Service, or the 2008 Semiconductor Application Service, which includes this study as well as other in-depth reports on Semiconductor Market Share, Semiconductors, Automotive Semiconductors, Consumer Semiconductors, Medical Semiconductors, Military and Aerospace Semiconductors, Process Control Semiconductors, Test and Measurement Semiconductors and Wireless Semiconductors.
